Allan Charles Johnson, age 69, of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, passed away December 17, 2024 at the Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Born and raised in Pawtucket, Allan lived almost his entire life in the community he loved.
A graduate of Pawtucket West High School (now Shea High School), Class of 1973, Allan went on to build a career as a master plumber and pipefitter. He worked for several companies, including Electric Boat, before serving as the Plumbing and Mechanical Inspector for the City of Pawtucket. Allan also founded Johnson Brothers Pools and later Allan Johnson Plumbing and Heating, both of which reflected his hard work, skill, and dedication to serving his community.
Allan wore his heart on his sleeve, showing his love and loyalty openly. He and his wife Carole took care of his parents, Charles and Marilyn Johnson, and his in-laws, Bob and Ruth Monast, ahead of their passing, a testament to their kindness and devotion to family.
Allan leaves behind his loving wife of 45 years, Carole, and his daughters, Elizabeth (and her husband, Michael) and Colleen (and her husband, Eamonn). He was the proud grandfather of five beautiful grandchildren—Isabella, Katerina, Charlie, Caroline, and Brigid—who lovingly called him Grandpa Grumpy, and his best grand-dog and loyal companion, Jake. Allan also leaves behind his siblings: Jeffrey, Douglas (and his wife, Gilda), and Mary Ellen (and her husband, Andrew), many cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends.
A proud American and lifelong Catholic, Allan’s faith was an important part of his life. He found joy in spending time with his family, taking long walks with the family dogs, playing basketball, swimming in his backyard pool, taking scenic rides on his motorcycle, and always researching and shopping for his next car. He shared a special bond with his daughter Elizabeth through running, and together they participated in countless local road races, including a memorable race at the Vatican in Rome in 2016. Allan was also a dedicated New England Patriots fan and a lover of his family dogs—Charlie, Shelby, and Cappy.
To say Allan was a hardworking man is an understatement. He built the home his family has lived in for 36 years, maintained a meticulous yard, and always went the extra mile in his career. His wry sense of humor brought smiles to all who knew him and his funny stories will be told for many years to come. His legacy is sure to live on in the family he loved so dearly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 28th at Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 1081 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence, RI 02904. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
In honor of the charitable and practical man that Allan was, please no flowers. If you feel moved to do so, donations can be made in his name to the Rhode Island Alzheimer’s Association, a local animal shelter, or to a charity of your choice.
